As salamu aleikum my brother. The topic of slavery is far faraway from being an black & white topic. It is well known that the Western powers made of slavery not just huge business , a global market but even an ideology. Unfortunately , in many cases, they were given a hand by some local African leaders(king of Dahomey, actual Benin ,for example) who made a lot of cash from capturing and selling slaves to the greedy Europeans merchants. It is sad but is true ,some of those leaders would call themselves Muslims. For more info I recomend you the book “History of African Civilization” by E Jefferson Murphy. As regards modern era , remember how were treated our Somali brothers in Saudi Arabia until late in the ’60s.
Wasalam!
