You may know you want to marry someone soon as you meet then, for others may take days, months, years. Some people may have already done a lot of soul searching before taking the Shahada, some may have had an awakening right there and there. So there are a lot more variables to consider before coming to your conclusion. There are many people who are born into Islam, live as Muslims since their birth, but they don't always follow through with actions also. Taking the Shahada is step one, then the real faith follows.
