We present to you Halal Tunes!

Alhamdulillah!

Tune up your soul with Halal Tunes!  Our team became frustrated when they couldn’t listen to the Qur’an in an easy way, so they decided to make their own online streaming player.  Check it out and share it with your family and friends inshaAllah!

May Allah (swt) accept your duas.  Ameen!

Ma’salaama,
Halal Tube Team

  1. tunes?

  2. Bismillah was salamu alaykum — the player is a fantastic idea, mashaAllah. Easy to use, easy to navigate. Impressive!

But the choice of site name is painful. It feeds the misunderstanding that non-Muslims have that the Qur’an is music. It feeds the idea that comes from outside the sunnah of using musical scales in teaching the beautification of qirat.

My suggestions (1) retain the name halaltubes for nasheeds that do not use musical instruments. (2) pick a new name for the player that hosts qirat. I know you want to keep the halal[branding] in place.

Consider: after all there are tubes and tunes that are the opposite of halal. and there are weaker/rejected qirat… So maybe just rename it halalqari or halalqirat if you can get those names.

May Allah put barakat in your work.

  3. Apple has redefined the meaning of ‘tunes’ in the online world. Please read this post for clarification:
    http://www.mujahideenryder.net/2009/04/09/tune-up-your-soul-with-halal-tunes/

  4. Salam, how can i add this to my blog. can you make an imbedded option link. Please.

Jazakhallah khair for this new site!

  5. @MR, that itunes calls all audio files music does not change the meanings of words. indeed, even if the audience for halaltunes had universally adopted the apple meaning, then why only qirat on that site? by your reasoning, all the audio files on halaltube should be moved to the halaltunes site because they all qualify in your opinion as “tunes.”

since the word halaltunes most universally implies nasheed, and the site only carries qirat, the site halaltunes implies something untrue about qirat.

again, the site, its audio quality, and selection — these are all wonderful, mashaAllah. keep the site just for qirat. :) i have already begun referring people to it. but i would change the name.

  6. Assalaamu alaikum,
Super idea. Suggest you break up longer surahs like Baqara into smaller sections so we can easily get to ayats we’d like to listen to and put on repeat. Could you include some recitations with English translations included after the ayah? Lastly, the iphone is not showing the surah index after choosing the qari.
    Jazakumullahu khair. Wasalaam.

  7. Assalam walakum,

The website “halal tunes” is a great idea and I have found it very beneficial to listen to a variety of reciters without going through the hassle of downloading files.

I had a suggestions to improve the site. If somehow, one can include translations of the Quran while the audio plays, some of us who do not understand arabic will find the site even more beneficial.

    Jazakallah khair.

  8. Salam Wa Alaykum to all,

Until i read the above I just realised my selfishness. Whilst we are greatful to the halal tube team for introducing halal tube I’d like to introduce to you all http://www.globalquran.com its not only awesome but fantastic as it has the quran in complete form and translation in many different english transliterations and also other languages. InshaAllah you all find great reward with this site as I did.

    Salam
    Tarek

  9. Salaam to all. How can I get this halal tune on to my apple iPod, the site says it but it can’t find it. Every time I click on halal tunes it just takes me to the comments page, like this

  10. Ibrahim – go to halaltunes.com, but i dont think it works on iphones

  11. MashAllah let me first say, I think this is a brilliant idea. Personally, I don’t think there’s any problem with the name. I clearly understand their position and its wonderful what the “Halal tube team” has done.
Why can’t we just appreciate it for what it is? Why do we always have to have some negative critique on it? Wheres the line drawn between nasheeha and being over critical?

Also I think the http://www.globalquran.com is absolutely amazing. JazakAllah khair Brother Tariq, I love this website. Especially for people that do not understand arabic, the subtitles are ingenues.

  12. My apologies for not starting off that comment with Asalamu Alakyam Wa Ramatullahi Wa Baraktuh.

  13. Cheers for the great info m8
