mujahid7ia: Forgive us, we forgot to reply to your comment. Regarding .wma to .mp3 conversion, if done properly it can be almost the same. Regarding the Adobe Flash issue, all we know is that it can play MP3 files encoded at a speed that is a multiple of 11.025 kHz. If you have any suggestions, then please let us know. JazakAllah khair!

I'm only asking because many lectures are low quality recordings to begin with, and converting lossy to lossy (i.e., wma -> mp3) usually results in a significant loss of quality.

So Adobe Flash Player itself cannot play those formats? Is Adobe's software using codecs installed on the users system or does it only require Flash installed and handle the decoding on its own?

Probably not. We will either convert them to MP3 and host them ourselves or nothing at all.

We use a Adobe Flash player which is the most versatile media player on the web playing video and audio. Almost all computer have that. With other formats, it tends to be a problem for many users to install the required codec, media player, etc. in order to hear the file.

Would you consider accepting any other formats, e.g. ogg, wma, rm/ra, wav et al?

If the url of the lecture is of a zip file, is it safe to assume you can’t use it?

We would probably unzip and upload the mp3 to our site.
