    Wonderful lecture.

I have a sincere question and I ask with all the respect and kindness and gentleness and softness the following question.

Since this lecture was delivered in a mixed gathering, can you please provide for me one example from the previous or the earliest generations of such lectures being delivered by sisters? I ask this out of curiosity and not out of hatred or any other ulterior motives.

If you can’t provide any evidence, then my sincere advice to you would be to fear Allah. Dying a life of obscurity in the obedience of Allah is much better than dying with a million followers on FB with the disobedience of Allah.

If you can’t provide any evidence from Islam, then you should refuse such lecture requests and put down a condition that you only speak directly to sisters and brothers can listen from a different room if they want to.

How is the above lecture setting any different from:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/29/progressive-muslims-launch-gay-friendly-women-led-mosques_n_1368460.html

If our Islam is not based on any precedence, then we should be extremely cautious if we really care about our hereafter when we introduce something new in Islam.

I congratulate you for your wonderful lectures but please give the above a deep thought. I would love to be proved wrong in my understanding if the correction is based on some Islamic precedence.

    • Ajma says:

Do you not go out and see other women, this sister is simply trying to teach us about Allah and Islam, get over narrow mindedness and try to learn from others

  2. Hulwan says:

To ‘I Care’ you have yet to explain what is wrong or if there is any religious law that prevents women from lecturing in public to a segregated audience? You ask others for evidences but fail to show any of your own. It is upon you to explain why something is haraam if you insist it to be. Ironic you say it was an excellent lecture but then go on tell others to refuse such lecture request. Then you go onto comparing it to gay mixed praying which is a gross misexagerrated comparison. You say you would love to be proven wrong, well i tell you there is nothing here needed to be proven, try commenting on the lecture next time if you are not too busy distracted.

As for the lecture, it was a good reminder to how we should deal with personal hardship and how sometimes we mistaken our personal trials as utterly tragic not realising others are going through worse and if they still strived for good then so can we.

    • concerned says:

What I would like to say is the lectures are great and might be beneficial to all but only and only one can internalize the message if its in accordance to quran and sunnah.Mothers of the ummah were all great teachers but taught behind the screen to men.True spirit of believing and loving Allah will only come through obediance no matter how hard it must be.We definitely need more teachers like this, may Allah increase in her knowledge and accept her tremendous dawah efforts.ameen.

  3. I agree with Hulwan. I think we need more women teaching Islam and more Muslim women role models.

  4. I Care says:

The history of Islam shows us that there were many female teachers of males. But nowhere do we find a setting where the female teacher sat in front of males like this lecture under discussion. This type of lecture setting only happens in western countries. Even in this day and age, I don’t think you will find any Muslim country which has this type of setting where a female is delivering a lecture in this manner.

Yes, I do agree that we need more women teaching Islam and more Muslim women role models. But it has to be done in an Islamic manner otherwise, we will open the doors to another progressive movement. I think Sister Yasmin is an really good role model for Muslims but we have to make sure that we don’t introduce something new in Islam which has no precedence and which can easily lead towards disobeying Allah.

Tomorrow someone will say that what’s wrong with females singing nasheeds in front of males? Are we going to use the same logic to permit nasheeds in that manner? I’m waiting for ISNA to add this type of session to their entertainment program.

Ever wondered why Al-Maghrib doesn’t have female instructors? Maybe this of concern of mine is the reason.

    • Concerned says:

I have included some of your comments anonymously in a letter to Al Maghrib Institute, who have recently added Sister Mogahed as a teacher in teaching men and women. In doing so, I hope to open awareness to our sisters and brothers who may be falling into shaytaan’s tricks…

  5. AMK says:

I totally agree with what ‘I Care’ says.
Sister Yasmin is a good role model for women in Islam.
She should deliver speeches like this.
I recommend her video lectures especially to my sisters in Islam.
But the problem is the way in which class is being conducted. There must not be any male students in the lecture room. It’s totally against Islamic culture.
Can anyone convey this matter to Sister Yasmin ?
    It’s important

  6. muhammad says:

    mashallah

you people are asking and making a fuss about some evidance and stuff….
some can u find better evidence than the wives of our rasool Muhammad(PBUH)….
what about the hadith’s that we obtain from AYISHA(rwh)….
if women were quiet we would not have got such hadith in the first place….
besides Allah (swt) honors women more than men by becoming mother’s Subhan Allah !!!!
I Care may Allah guide you more in finding a better ans… mashallah

  7. Mitra says:

Please don’t help shaytan against for our brothers and sisters.

  8. Lun says:

Icare does makes a good point and has presented his view in a very polite manner. i think Sister Yasmin is amazing (mashallah) but it puzzled me into why she puts pictures of herself on her facebook page where sisters as well as brothers can see. her mixed gathering lectures also brings up concerns. regardless of her good intentions, she is young and very pretty with a beautiful iman and if these brothers are able to see this sister so freely, couldn’t feelings of attraction and admiration occur? The Quran clearly does state in males and females lowering their gaze………anyway such discussions should not be made here without her awareness and should be made to her directly instead.

  10. faya says:

You guys are taking this too far. Shes a decent muslima whos is only lecturing. Is she wearing revealing clothing? No, attractive make up? No. If this women is lecturing and you as a man are looking at her in an inappropriate way, that is your wrong, she has done nothing wrong. She is not speaking in a seductive way. She has done no wrong so stop critizing her and focus on bettering yourself as a muslim. Gays and women lecturing are two completely different things, its like comparing an apple to a car!

  11. S K Nassif says:

Jazaki Allah Kheir Yasmin, this came at the right time for me. As for the previous negative comments, she’s covered, we are not supposed to be a segregated society we are supposed to live together – men and women – with decency. Just benefit from her knowledge.

  12. Umm k says:

ALHAMDULLILAH May Allah bless her for her efforts and forgive her short comings.
