About this lecture

In this wide-ranging lecture delivered in Kano, Nigeria, Mufti Ismail Menk unpacks the famous Hadith of Ibn Abbas in which the Prophet ﷺ advises a man to seize five opportunities — health, wealth, youth, life, and free time — before each is taken away. Drawing on Quranic verses, Hadith, and vivid real-life examples, he challenges cultural norms that obstruct marriage, devalue women, and prioritise wealth over character and deen. The lecture is both a heartfelt call to simplify our lives and return to the Sunnah, and a practical reminder that every gift from Allah is a test that will eventually be taken away — so we must use it wisely while we still can.
